This workshop will examine three key topics in media: (1) facts and values; (2) scientific information; and (3) types of media biases that are not discussed in the many articles and popular discussions of fake news. We’ll break down these underlying non-political biases and provide hands on tools for analyzing any news source. Attendees will have the opportunity to work with a small group to identify bias and evaluate sources.

Amy Harth is a media studies and economic development scholar focusing on representations of Africa in Western media. Amy has extensive experience as an editor for authors of both academic and popular media and is currently working on her PhD dissertation.
